Our guides assert that climbers must arrive prepared as indicated, but please keep in mind that not all gear will be required for all departures. We are often asked if all items appearing on this list are really required. This gear list that has been specifically designed for this trip. Having the proper gear is vital to your comfort and safety. We ask that you keep this in mind as you prepare for your climb. Mountaineering requires a high degree of flexibility. However, this itinerary is subject to change for numerous reasons including, but not limited to, group safety and the chance of a successful summit attempt. If possible, we will provide updated route details in your final departure materials. While the most common routes we climb include Avalanche Gulch and Clear Creek, your guides will determine the final route based off conditions at time of travel. Mileage: ~2.5 miles to summit, ~7 miles descent 12-14 hour total. Due to fatigue, you may want to consider spending another night in the local area before starting your return travel home. From camp, we pack up and make our final descent to the trailhead arriving back in the late afternoon. After our summit bid the descent to camp may take 2.5 to 4.5 hours. Our turnaround time may be as early 11:00 am in order to avoid potentially serious hazards that tend to manifest in the afternoon. During years of low snowpack, mid to late season routes may be a combination of rough climbers trails, minor scrambling, and scree fields, making snow climbing equipment mostly unnecessary. Early season departures are most likely to experience a typical snow and ice mountaineering environment. The local guide team will choose the most suitable route based on current conditions and snowpack. Summit day! Our summit attempt commences between 2:00 am and 3:00 am.
